SCAD-logoApplication Head Start for Applicants to Canadian Universities Date: TBD Location: ONLINE. This session is designed for soon-to-be grads who are in the final stages of determining which Canadian universities they will apply to next fall and who would like to tackle the application essays in a supervised setting. In addition to grade 12 students, space permitting, this session will also be open to grade 11 students who want to have a head start in the application process. Look up your P.E.N. number prior to the workshop (from your report cards). Topics include:

  • The Application – Students will be introduced to the various applications used by individual provinces as well as expectations and requirements.
  • Specialized Programs – Depending on students’ interests, we will review a number of specialized programs.
  • Supplements: Essays/Questions– This session will introduce students to essay prompts and common questions. Students will brainstorm topics and begin writing drafts, receiving feedback on the content and structure of their work. Discussions will include tips and common mistakes to avoid.
  • Awards and Activity Listings  – Students will receive guidance and begin work on listing the details of their extracurricular activities and awards.
  • Mock Online Video Prep – for those programs which require a timed video response to one or more application questions.
  • Recommenders – We will review who to list as recommenders.
  • Senior Year Timeline – Students will learn how to put together a game plan for managing the application process, taking into consideration application deadlines, supplement deadlines and scholarship deadlines.
